Edwin Baas of Baas Sport in Curaçao received the quality seal of the Dutch Boxing Association NBB (Nederlandse BoksBond) from director René Braad.
Baas Sport has been a household name on the island for many years. Various martial arts can be practiced in this gym, including boxing. Edwin is also the chairman of CuraBox. With this he connects the different boxing centers on the island and tries to get the boxers to box as often as possible.
In addition to his passion for top sport, he also makes this accessible for anyone who wants to practice boxing. Nothing is too much for him and if necessary he even sacrifices his vacation to transfer the boxing virus to the youth.
Baas Sport is also a branch for Dutch boxers who stay in Curaçao for a longer period of time for work or vacation and who want to continue practicing their favorite sport.
Edwin made the Boxing Instructors course possible and was the host for the conversation with the chairman of the Surinamese Boksbond Mr Remie Burke.

2023.04.03 Cem Senol gave a great guest training at Baas Sports.
Cem Senol has more than 25 years’ experience in full-contact Karate/ Kyokushin, Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts, and won many national and international titles.
In 2020, he achieved a top performance by completing the 100-man kumite. He fought on 1 day against no less than 100 men, who followed each other. Full Contact with bare fists and no protection on the shins and feet.
History was made because this was the first time that the 100-man kumite was held in the Netherlands.
It wasn’t gentle and there are only 30 people worldwide who have completed this ultimate test. Cem Senol can now join these kumite legends.
The kumite was organized for Stichting Hartekind, to which all proceeds went. It was very tough but the seasoned experienced Senol fought through it. The last man he fought was his former trainer and legend Kancho Gerard Gordeau, who fought the very first UFC fight in 1993 and won in 26 seconds by TKO.
In 2013 Cem started Osaka dojo (https://dojo-osaka.com/), because in addition to being a very experienced fighter, he is also very experienced in the field of teaching.
The AMBC president Jose Laureano also came from Puerto Rico as special invitee for Supreme’s international event with boxers from Aruba, Brazil, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Panama, Peru and Venezuela.
2023.05.20 Raekwon Baas won his first boxing bout in The Netherlands @ “Battle of The Best”.
2023.06.10 Vitorio de Joode (Baas) won unanimous in MMA -70 kg. at the Pro-Fit’s CuraFight Night.

2023.06.17 Raekwon Baas (NSC Haarlem) won the semi-final of the NNK (Noord Nederlandse Kampioenschappen). 2023.06.2023 Raekwon became champion at “de Beuk” in Purmerend.
YdK Zion Martina (Team Frisia) knocked out his opponent in 10 seconds of the first round and won the final in a higher class.
Raekwon’s team members of New Sport Challenge, Abdel Kofi and Gian Lijnbach, won the finals in lighter weight classes. Trainer/coach Hannes Schneider did a great job and can be very proud.
2023.09.25/26 Baas Sports participated with 3 boxers @ the Curaçao National Boxing Championships.
Raekwon Baas won on August 25 the semi final and went to the final of the elite class 67-71 kg. In the semi final he dislocated his arm from his shoulder. Still he went into the final.There he was even more unlucky because he even fell through the bottom of the boxing ring twice and sprained his ankle and knee. No excuses, it was an even battle that he narrowly lost.
Rayen Guanipa was the better boxer in his match and the jury was divided. He lost by a 2-3 split decision.
Vitorio de Joode dominated his bout and the referee stopped the contest in the second round.
Ka Wong Quinlan Winterdal trained till July 2023 at Baas Sports Curaçao. He left for the Netherlands to study and trains now at The Punch Boxing in Tilburg. 2023.10.15 Quinlan fought his first boxing bout in The Netherlands (Leeuwarden) and WON Mustafa Naderi. 2023.11.11 Quinlan in Germany. 2023.12.03 he won the final of the National Championships in Junior -66 kg.
After six months of not being able to box competitive, Raekwon Baas, now training at FitBoyz 010, made a successful comeback in the ring.
During the Open Championships OZNK he won the quarter-final on January 20 by WO.
January 21, Raekwon won the semi-final in Breda against the Belgian Lennert Dalemans, who defeated a German in the quarter-finals.
January 27, Raekwon won in Heerlen, the final vs Joshua Perkins by unanimous decision.

Both Ilai Lie and Shawn Pryce from Baas Sports made a victorious debut and Rayen Guanipa and Quinlan Winterdal showed great boxing skills in their exhibition bouts.
Due to the great enthusiasm, we were unable to accept anyone after 30 registrations. Nevertheless, a total of 36 children aged 8 till 12 years participated at the free Martial Kids clinic @ Sambil.
April 21, 2024, Raekwon Baas (FitBoyz 010) became South Netherlands Champion and won his third championship title in the Netherlands.
May 24, 2024, Raekwon Baas (FitBoyz 010) won the international Portimão Box Cup in Portugal.
Both Ilai Lie and Shawn Pryce, from Baas Sports, won May 30, 2024, @ Papa Godett Trophy.
Also lof of respect for the opponents, because there are no losers in this game. The audience was big winner too for watching great fights for free.
The free kids clinics by Baas Sports Curaçao, on April 12, July 16, July 23 and October 8 @ SAMBIL Curaçao, were great successes.
Stefan Lems of Ruthless Fight Company, is a well-known and internationally respected expert in the MMA scene. Stefan was trained by Kops Gym and passes on his knowledge and professional experiences in the MMA and Wrestling field. Most people also know Stefan Lems as Cutman. Stefan, who is actively involved in many large international MMA organizations in taking care of the fighters inside and outside the cage.
Stefan will give some MMA seminars on Thursday evening September 26 and Tuesday evening October 1st, 2024, from 7 pm @ Pro-Fit, Kaminda Elektrishen 19.

Edwin Baas has mixed feelings, because according to him October 10, 2010 was a death blow for Curacao sport. He assumes that most people are familiar with the consequences for the sport of the disappearance of the Netherlands Antilles.
Gedane zaken nemen geen keer, so we just have to make the best of it.
